SUBMISSIONS PAGE

If you are seeing this page, you have been invited to submit to Illuminations of the Fantastic Magazine. All authors must submit the following information for the editors. Please read the Rules & Conditions carefully before completing and submitting.

RULES & CONDITIONS

OUR AI POLICY — The policy of Illuminations of the Fantastic on AI-generated and AI-assisted materials is adamant: we are not interested in reading or publishing works written or edited by the computer— we are only interested in reading works by you. If you give the AI a prompt, can you really claim authorship of the resulting work any more than if you’d given the prompt (no matter how detailed) to a friend to write?

DRAFTS/FINAL DRAFTS — Every author has a right to review their work after every stage of editing to decide if they like the direction given by the editors. If, in the case of a disagreement, and after too many negotiations, either the author or editors feel a compromise cannot be brokered, the chief editor may remove the work from the docket.

DEADLINES — Deadlines will be discussed and agreed on by both sides after the initial invitation to contribute. Hard Deadline: Editors will deliver final edited draft to author for author’s consent at least 48 hours before publication but probably earlier.

TITLESMost of the time, the chief editor will default to consulting the author for title changes. However, if the chief editor is not satisfied with any titles provided, the final decision to change the title rests with the chief editor. This is the industry standard and expectation. If there is a disagreement, the author may withdraw their work or the chief editor may remove their work from the docket.

ARTWORK — All artwork is ultimately chosen at the discretion of the chief editor. However, the chief editor might consult with the author for ideas. If there is a disagreement, the author may withdraw their work or the chief editor may remove their work from the docket.

PRESENTATION — It is the responsibility of the magazine and the chief editor to decide on presentation, including artwork, title, blurb descriptions, font stylings, and any promotional materials. If there is a disagreement, the author may withdraw their work or the chief editor may remove their work from the docket.

THANK YOU — We’re excited to work with you! If you have any questions about the rules and conditions, please keep in communication with the editors. We’re always willing to listen.
